Is the fact that companies are making things smaller and charging more money for them…..
and they think we aren’t noticing.

Let’s look at toilet paper as an example. Have you noticed they’re now selling double and triple size rolls? Have you also noticed the cardboard tube this paper is rolled around is thinner and the hole is bigger?

How much “extra” toilet paper are we actually getting?
Less than we think.

They think we’re idiots.

Take my favorite chocolate bar…World’s Finest Chocolate Bars
have gone from about an inch thick candy bar to a thickness closer to a quarter inch.

Sadly,
I’ve stopped purchasing them.  They’re just not the same.

And the very last straw?

Sara Lee Brownies….
these brownies used to be over an inch thick…

now, if they’re a half inch… you’d be lucky.
How disappointing.

Honestly……
I can go on and on .

Is this just a sign of the times?
Who knows

But it’s still a disappointment.

The only thing I can think of that’s still the same…
are Sunglasses.

They’re still the same size… or bigger
and depending upon the brand… or non-brand you’re purchasing…..
the pricing hasn’t changed much if any.

 I’m guessing you’re talking about the free 3D glasses you get from the movie theaters when you go to see a 3D movie.

I know it’s a little dark in the theater,
but if you read the package your 3D glasses came in,
the answer would be NO.

Let’s all read this WARNING label together:

 WARNING:
NOT SAFE FOR USE AS SUNGLASSES
These glasses do not screen ultraviolet light. Wearing them as sunglasses will not protect your eyes. Use only in the theater. Keep out of reach of children under 3.

Huh, obviously, they don’t want you wearing those outside.

Maybe they seriously care about your eyes or maybe they just want you to leave them there in the recycling box.

Hard to tell.

 Sometimes I think some of these companies put ridiculous warnings on their labels for entertainment purposes.

Like the guy in the label making department always wanted to be a comedian or something.

And you know exactly what labels I’m talking about,
take the Superman Costume label: Warning:
This clothing does not enable flight or super strength.

Orthe hair dryer label warning us to not use while sleeping

You think?

Here’s a couple more labels worth noting:

Seriously, who’s putting people in washing machines?

 Wow….
make sure your dog skips happy hour at the local bar,
& doesn’t drive the car….
or operate dangerous machinery while he’s on these meds

I want to say….
they think we’re morons.

Are they protecting themselves from being sued?

Who knows.

But, you have to wonder if the reason they are writing these warnings
is, because someone has actually done it.

we’re talking about wearing 3D glasses as sunglasses……

First, let’s get a little history on 3D or 3Dimensonal Glasses:

3D glasses were popular in the 1950’s. Although, they were actually invented in 1922.

They have gone in and out of popularity for decades.

Lately, we’re seeing more 3D movies at the theaters
and they’ve even come to our home TV’s, are on DVD
and have been incorporated into video games.

Technology….got to love it.

This is how 3D works:

3D functions on a binocular vision system, which basically means
it’s vision that incorporates images from both eyes simultaneously. The slight differences between the two images—seen from slightly different positions—make it possible to perceive distances between objects in what is known as depth perception.

 Here is a familiar pair of 3D glasses, which are still used today.

The red and green or red and blue paper 3D glasses were used to view many older 3-D movies. The way this works is two images are displayed on the screen, one in red and the other in blue (or green). The filters on the glasses allow only one image to enter each eye, and your brain does the rest. They make the movie or television show you’re watching look like it’s happening right in front of you. With objects flying off the screen and in your direction, you feel part of the movie. Although, you can’t really have a good quality “color” movie when you are using color to provide the separation, so the image quality is not nearly as good as with the newer polarized system.

At Disney World, Universal Studios and other 3D venues, the preferred method uses polarized lenses because they allow color viewing. This is where two synchronized projectors project two respective views onto the screen, each with a different polarization. The glasses allow only one of the images into each eye because they contain lenses with different polarization.

These plastic polarized 3D“Clark Kent” looking glasses have for the most part, replaced the older red and blue 3D glasses and look very similar to a regular pair of sunglasses…..

which I guess brings us back to the original question.
Can you wear your 3D glasses as sunglasses?

Well, I actually tried a pair on,

and surprisingly, I saw clearly out of them….

but then I looked in the mirror…and NO….

I would definitely NOT wear these in the daylight.

First, my eyes looked goofy like an image in a trick mirror….

& secondly, they were big, bulky, they sat weirdly high on my face, they weren’t dark enough
and honestly, they just looked ridiculous.

So…..

I will stick with the manufacturers warning

& NOT wear these out of the theater…
but, for more reasons than possible eye damage.

I can honestly say, if you have a favorite pair of sunglasses from….say….
like 1950 or something….
first of all, good for you for taking good care of your things.
But more importantly…wear them.  If you like them, wear them.
People would probably not even notice.
And to be honest,
sunglass styles that have been around for decades are still in style today.

 You know, the funny thing about this song is, it ranked 280 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and it has been covered by at the least, 144 artists, including: Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, Lenny Kravitz, Marvin Gaye, and even as recent as Rob Thomas, Maroon 5, Fall Out Boy, and Akon.  Talk about something withstanding the test of time.

Sometimes, due to unfortunate circumstances beyond our control,
the life-span of our sunglasses is cut short.

Sunglasses, unfortunately do not last forever, but, depending on how you take care of them, they can last a very long time.

As stupid as it may seem, this article is obviously needed, people aren’t getting the fact that they may have to throw out or replace their beloved sunglasses. This is apparent from the letters & photos I receive, so bear with me while I address these circumstances, and we can put all these questions to rest.

 These have a cracked lens.
This is probably an eye hazzard on top of looking stupid.
Throw them out.

Bent frame……come on dude….maybe try to bend these back into shape.  Although, I see why you’re trying to hold on to them, I’m not sure you’d find another pair to match that shirt.

Missing arm….If you must wear these, at least wear your hair down.
But seriously…..throw them out.
Although, guessing this would have worked
very well for Vincent Van Gogh.

Missing lens… if you CAN find the lens, pop it in…
you may be able to get a few more uses out of these.
If you lost the lens, either pop out the other lens and use them as costume eye glasses. Or better yet…
throw them out.

come on guys….if they’re not worth fixing…let them go.

If you’ve spent a lot of money for your sunglasses,
you may try to get them repaired. You will know if you spent enough money on your sunglasses, to even considering repairing them.

If your glasses are a popular brand name designer type, they might be warranteed against manufacturer’s defects.
Again I said, manufacturer’s defects,
they are not guaranteed against everyday mishaps and just stupid.

So, in closing, if you are unsure if you need a new pair of sunglasses, take a look at the above photos and compare your own broken sunglasses. It just may be time to say good bye to your little friend.

Although, probably not the ones you wear everyday. 

I’m talking about getting in the spirit of the holidays by wearing decorative sunglasses to show your love and support for the holiday.

The good thing about these little festive additions to our holiday, is they are
normally reasonably priced and can be purchased at our neighborhood department stores.  Although, they may not be the designer, polarized sunglasses with all the UV protection, they will work for making you look like a happy go lucky, fun loving person.  Plus, just think of all the cheer you’ll be spreading just walking around in these.
Let’s Help make peoples holidays a little less stressful and a whole lot of fun!

But after thinking about it, it would seem that Polar bears living in the Arctic do deal with intense brightness from the sun reflecting off snow and ice.

How DO they protect their eyes from snow blindness?

Well, interestingly, Polar Bears as well as some mammals, such as dogs, cats, camels, seals, beavers, various reptiles, birds, and fish have a unique feature to protect their eyes. It’s a nictitating membrane or haw which is a thin transparent or translucent third eyelid that protects their eyes much like sunglasses or snow goggles protect ours.  It is also known as a as plica semilunaris in scientific lingo.

It reaches from the inner corner to the outside of the eye and back. When it’s not in use, the haw folds into the corner of the eye and is barely visible.

Polar bears have a full nictitating membrane which allows them to see underwater and also filter snow glare. Unlike the upper and lower eyelids, the nictitating membrane moves horizontally across the eyeball. Kind of like a sliding glass door.

For example, for a shark, it moves across the eye to protect it while under water, and in these species it is transparent. In other diving animals like sea lions, the third eyelid is activated on land, to remove sand and other debris.
 

Here’s a scary fact,
humans once had a nictitating membrane as well, if you look in the inner corners of your eyes you can still see their vestigial remains. It is now permanently folded away into the pinkish bulb at the inner corner of the eye.

Guess it was a useless feature in evolution.

But just think of the money we would have saved on
Sunglasses and Snow Goggles!

Anyway, I think we all learned something here today. And to answer your question, Polar Bears don’t need Sunglasses or Snow goggles because they already have it covered.

is sporting from the 1980’s…
yes they still do.

For those of you that don’t know what clip-on sunglasses are, let me explain.

Clip-on or flip-up sunglasses are very convenient. They clip right on to your prescription eyeglasses and can flip up or down depending when and if you need them. They allow you to see clearly while shading and protecting your eyes from the sunlight, which make them an affordable option to having to purchase prescription sunglasses,
which can be quite costly.

Although, they’ve never disappeared,
now-a-days it seems Hollywood has rediscovered these.

You may not have recognized them though,
considering they’ve been re-vamped with a new look.

I’m saying a new look…
not necessarily a better look.

One of the biggest supporters of this clip on, flip up craze is Lady Gaga.

Here she kicks them old school…
